Sports fans only: "William Romanowski"? Jeezus, I hope this guy doesn't fly off in a fit of 'roid rage and rip the head off of a heathen or two. Sean "that would likely result in a flag being thrown" Davis I think we're safe. If he's a prof at Calvin College, I doubt he flies back and forth from California every fall Sunday. random side note: he was a 49er when Tecmo Super Bowl came out (1991 season). Damn I loved that game. Used to beat the crap out of my brother's 49ers with my Buffalo Bills. Too bad the real Super Bowls didn't turn out that way

I emailed the dude in charge of the event and let him know that we had a group of about 7 people coming. If we get more or less, it won't be a problem, but they are now informed of our planned presence.

Thanks, Susan. Shall those interested get some dinner beforehand? I like cheap.

Cheap is good for me. Jordan's band is playing in the Battle of the Bands that night at the Ic-we could eat there or nearby-heck, we could reprieve Kangs or Rice Kitchen or anything littering Grand River too.
I'm not sure when Jordan actually plays, due to the scheduling we might miss him, but I wouln't mind giving it a try and if I miss it-se la vie-I have all their songs memorized anyway-although live they are quite a great spectacle and due to my long friendship with him, I feel a small, not obligation, but ...want... to support the band by offering applause and a body to help fill the dancefloor.

Oh you said beforehand, for some reason I thought after. Forget all the Jordan stuff then, that won't be till later anyway. My vote is still to get eats though.

We can discuss dinner plans at the meeting tomorrow, since Kellogg Center is a rather funky location for cheap pre-lecture eats.
Ian, has the university booked Jordan's band for the commencement ceremony? His ode to the featured speaker would be most appropriate.

I didn't know Conny was the featured speaker....Holy fucking shit would that be hilarious. It's not tooo insulting of a song, parts are down right flattering if in a semi-touch in cheek, ironic/sarcastic way but something tells me she wouldn't take the joke well though...which is a much funnier and more desired result anyway.
"I don't mind that you work for him if you don't care that I voted for you know who"
"Come down to my place, have a little wine, we can dim the lights and take a little tiiiime to work on our foreign relations"
"...You can work on my inflation"
"You carry the weight of the world on those legs, a diamond in the rough, you shine among the political dre-he-heggs, you're my Condaleeza!! Oohhooo"
mmmmmm, that's good lambasting

Its my own alteration of a quote-mmm thats good satire-used by both John Stewart and The Simpsons-in the same voice and straightening of the collar mannerisms-this leads me to conclude they are both employing an homage to someone in particular that talked like that-probably a comedy or entertainment icon a little before my time. Does anyone know who it is? I'd love to know because I've been employing it as well-Simpsons and Stewart are good comedic role models.

Just so everyone realizes....we didn't talk about where we were going to eat before the lecture. Unless all you did and left me out of it... But anyway, I would like to see a definite posting on where and when the eats would be. I vote for extremely cheap. Extremely. I will hopefully be checking in later today...and earlier tomorrow...so I would really like to see it then. Or someone can call me with the plans. Thanks -Laura

Given the extreme emphasis on "cheap eats," I'll just strip the plants in the Beal gardens to make a salad for you guys. If that doesn't sound that good, then the IC or the Union work just fine.

I thought I posted on this earlier, but I guess that was just in my little ol', cluttered mind.
IC, 6pm, walkin' to the Kellogg center for some cereal and lecturing afterwards?

The front door off Harrison would probably be best, in the 7:00-7:15 range. I'm not sure how big the Red Cedar room is, so if this thing is going to be busy, we want to be early enough to get seats. Even if that is unnecessary, I doubt anyone would mind shooting the shit to kill some time.
