www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/oped/bal-op.thomas03mar03,0,7085047.story?coll=bal-oped-headlines I like how he cleverly uses an "example" to put forward the idea that not believing in God robs one of an intellectual basis for morality. I counter that using fear of God, or appealing to God effects more moral relativism than positing ethical rules based on logic and then deriving the rest of morality from there. Thomas' words make sense, if you only believe in the Judeo-Xtian worldview, and are not versed in other religious or societal teachings. Other societies have engaged in acts that were basically marriage under another name, so I find the Bible citation as the basis for marriage arrogant. He also refuses to discuss the difference between a "legal" marriage, possible in any courthouse, outside of a church, and a marriage sanctioned by a house of worship. Frankly, if Cal wants to go off on something, it should be the high divorce rate in America ... but then again, he'd likely alienate his conservative audience that way, given that many of them could be on their second or third marriage. I could go off on this in a manner unlike my usual postings, but that's likely due to the way I feel today, i.e., ill. Sean "hence, punching bag instead of the 'issues' thread" Davis
