It's a book, for chrissakes. Reading it will not make you a witch/warlock. Have an open mind. This sort of things gets on my nerves. Does the Bible say you are supposed to be a close-minded jackass? There is nothing wrong with reading about other beliefs, you still have yours, and a silly little book won't change it, right? Maybe they do have a point though...after all, that is what their faith is based on, a dumb book. To be fair, maybe they really do fear reading it because they know they are so susceptible and guillable that they will believe in it. Or the kid was lazy and didn't feel like reading the book.
But honestly...Harry Potter is a manual for witchcraft? Yeah, right. Then how come I can't make my Patronus appear whenever I yell "expecto petronum!"? It's just a damn children's book, with no more diabolical instruction in it than The Ugly Duckling. In fact, it shows a higher ground of morals that most kids don't get to discover until sometime around puberty, when, apparently, it's okay for their brains to start working . There's a boy who against all odds defeats evil (in the first few books anyway). I guess parents don't want their children thinking about the realities of life (people die, "evil" exists, etc).
But, basically, my point is that religious fanatics are stupid and should be shot.

honestly. That's absolutely ridiculous. I know we've been over this ground before, but ... SERIOUSLY! They are just books. it's unbelievable. By those standards, I don't have to answer questions on a good 80% (or more?) of English standard novels because they mention "God" and the way people live is a model of Christianity. I hate close-minded people...

Oh but you know we wouldn't get away with that. It doesn't offend our religious sensibilities because we aren't religious, and besides, we have no feelings because we are heartless, baby-eating, devil-worshipping atheists. Don't ask me to explain their logic on that one. I maintain...the kid was probably didn't know how to answer the question, so he said his religion wouldn't let him answer.
